Increase Your Fiber Knowledge

NUNOFELTdesigns by Nancy Schwab, San Francisco: http://nunofeltdesigns.blogspot.com/

Whether you are a spinner, felter or specialize in one or more aspects of the wonderful world of the fiber arts, increasing your knowledge of fibers, fiber types, sources and resources are all part of improving your technique. The more you know, the better choices you can make to achieve success in your chosen medium(s).

Several years ago, I knew nothing about wool fibers, roving, felting or knew the difference between processed and raw fibers! I didn't even know there was such a huge variety of sheep around the world!
There are hundreds of sites that contain great information about all facets of the fiber arts from small farms that sell raw fleeces to sites (and organizations) that promote wool from specific geographic regions.
I am not a fiber-dyer or processor but I do collect information about where wool comes from, how it's processed and how it's sold, including what's new to the market.

International Fleeces in Laramie Wyoming has one of the most informative sites for information about undyed (but mostly processed) fibers and all the accouterments including drum carders, spinning wheels, and other basic equipment.

There is lots of very valuable information about fibers and how to choose the best fibers for your intended project.
